PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a solid golf ball advantageous in contest which is favorable in the approach spin performance, touch of hitting balls and the like along with an increase in carry. SOLUTION : The solid golf ball includes a core and a cover layer covering it and has a number of dimples formed on the external surface of the outer most layer out of the cover layer. The core is formed out of a rubber base material containing a polybutadiene rubber having 60% or more of cis-1, 4-bond synthesized by using a rare-earth catalyst and a rubber composition containing an organosulfur compound, unsaturated carboxylic acid or its metal salt and an inorganic filler while the degree of deformation is held within the specified range and the core has the specified distribution of hardness. The cover layer is composed mainly of a polyurethane material and the thickness, surface hardness and bending rigidity of the cover layer are held within the specified range and the degree of deformation when a load from an initial load of 10 kgf to a final load of 130 kgf is imposed on the ball is held within the specified range.
