PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a manufacturing method of a rare earth-iron-nitrogen-based magnetic powder having excellent holdability and squareness with high yield. SOLUTION : The manufacturing method comprises a first step of mixing a material powder with a reducing agent and reducing a rare earth oxide power to diffuse it in iron, thereby obtaining a porous mass reactive product containing a rare earth-iron-based master alloy powder and a by-product generated by reduction; a second step of exposing the obtained porous mass reactive product into an atmosphere containing hydrogen to collapse the product and obtaining a collapsed product; a third step of applying heat treatment to the obtained collapsed product in an atmosphere containing nitrogen to nitride the rare earth-iron-based master alloy powder; and a fourth step of executing a wet processing to remove the by-product. In this method, an inert gas containing oxygen is used for the atmosphere gas after completion of reduction diffusion reaction in the first step. COPYRIGHT : (C)2008, JPO&INPIT
