PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To obtain a high efficiency, high output, and low cost laser diode pumping solid-state laser capable of continuously oscillating an ultraviolet light.
SOLUTION : A solid-state laser crystal 14 added by at least Sm3+ among rare earth elements is excited by a laser beam 10 radiated by a GaN system laser diode 11.Thereby, a solid-state laser beam 20, generated by a transition from 4G5/2 to 6H5/2 in the solid-state laser crystal 14, is subjected to wavelength conversion such as into second harmonic waves 21 of an ultraviolet part, by being made to pass through an optical wavelength conversion element 16.
