PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a two-piece solid golf ball which has an extremely excellent flying performance, a high split durability for the cover, and wear resistance of the coating film, and a soft hitting feeling compared with a conventional golf ball. SOLUTION : This two-piece solid golf ball of which the solid core is formed of a rubber composition, and of which the cover is formed of a thermoplastic polyurethane material as the major component is provided. In this case, the rubber composition contains a rubber base material containing a polybutadiene which is synthesized using a rare earth element catalyst, a small quantity of an organic peroxide, an unsaturated carboxylic acid and/or its metal salt, an organic sulfuric compound, and an inorganic filler.
