The invention provides a method of efficient preparation of a precursor of a rare earth activated alkaline earth metal fluorohalide stimulable phosphor exhibiting superior plate characteristics, a rare earth activated alkaline earth metal fluorohalide stimulable phosphor obtained from the precursor and a radiation image conversion panel comprising the stimulable phosphor and exhibiting enhanced sensitivity and improved image quality. A preparation method of a precursor of a rare earth activated alkaline earth metal fluorohalide stimulable phosphor represented by formula (1) is disclosed, comprising step A of adding an aqueous solution of an inorganic fluoride into a mother liquor containing a barium halide to form a reaction mixture containing a precipitate of a precursor of the stimulable phosphor (time "a") and step B of removing a solvent from the reaction mixture (time "b"), in which the step A and step B are conducted concurrently and preparation is performed under the condition of 0.25 < a/b < 0.95. €ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒ€ƒFormula (1) Ba (1-x) M 2(x) FBr (y) I (1-y) : aM 1 , bLn, cO
