PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a new rare earth permanent magnet material containing, as a main phase, an Sm5Fe17 intermetallic compound having high magnetic anisotropy. SOLUTION : The new rare earth permanent magnet material having high coercive force is an alloy containing, as a main phase, an Sm5Fe17 intermetallic compound consisting of samarium (Sm) as rare earth metal and iron (Fe) as 3d transition metal and has a fine structure of 10 to 1, 000 nm grain size.
