PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a single polarization optical fiber laser which is highly reliable, and is inexpensive. SOLUTION : The single polarization optical fiber laser includes an oscillation medium of a rare-earth-element-added polarization plane maintaining optical fiber. The polarization plane maintaining optical fiber is melted and extended to provide a polarization-dependent element with one polarization component showing a loss that is greater than a loss of another polarization component by ≥5 dB.
