PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a high efficiency, high output power, and inexpensive laser-diode pumped solid-state laser capable of continuously oscillating an ultraviolet light.
SOLUTION : The laser-diode pumped solid-state laser excites a solid-state laser crystal 14 doped with at least Er3+ out from rare earth element ions with a laser beam 10 generated from a GaN based laser diode 11, while a solid-state laser beam 20 generated by the transition of 4S3/2→4I15/2 or 2H9/2→4I13/2 in the solid-state laser crystal 14 is wavelength-converted to a second harmonic wave 21 and the like of an ultraviolet range through an optical wavelength converting element 16.
