PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an optical material which is obtained by mixing an organic medium (base material) with an additive and has higher refractive index and lower-dispersion or higher-dispersion characteristic as compared to the base material, and to provide a control method of refractive index and refractive index dispersion of the organic medium which is advantageous for the manufacturing of the optical material.
SOLUTION : In the optical material comprising an organic medium and metal clusters dispersed in the organic medium, (1) the metal cluster includes center metal consisting of rare earth metal and counter metal existing via oxygen atom for the center metal, (2) the counter metal is at least one kind selected from the group consisting of Al, Ga, Zr, Hf, Nb, Ti and Ta and (3) the optical material has high-refractive index and low-dispersion or high-dispersion characteristics in comparing with the organic medium not containing the metal cluster.
