PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a manufacturing method for a magnetic powder which can be used for collecting heavy metals contaminating environment and rare metals, has acid and alkali resistance and large surface area, modifies the surface of a molecule having a functional group by chemical bonding and has high magnetism while being reusable.
SOLUTION : In the manufacturing method including three processes, a process of forming titanium compound layer on the surface of magnetite particle surface, a process of burning and a process of modifying with a functional group : (1) the magnetic powder having the surface laminated with a titanium compound is obtained by adding water to an organic solvent such as an alcohol of a titanium alkoxide and growing titanium hydroxide microparticles created by hydrolysis on the surface of seed particles while optimizing reaction condition by adding an appropriate amount of glycerol; (2) the magnetic powder consisting of magnetite particles having the surface laminated with a titanium oxide layer is obtained by crushing after burning in an inactive gas atmosphere; and (3) the magnetic powder having modification with a functional group such as EDTA is obtained by performing silane coupling treatment.
