PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a reduction method for producing a reaction product under a mild reaction condition in a high yield and high selectivity and to provide a reduction catalyst being used in the reduction method. SOLUTION : In the reduction method for carrying out a reduction reaction using hydrogen as a reducing agent, a perovskite-type compound oxide represented by general formula (1) : AB1-xPdxO3 (wherein A is at least one kind of an element selected from a rare earth element and an alkaline earth metal; B is at least one kind of an element selected from a transition element (except rare earth elements and Pd) and Al; and x is an atomic ratio of Pd).
