Electropositive metals preferably having a revised Pauling electronegativity of less than 1.32 forrepelling elasmobrancils and methods of using electropositive metals to repel elasmobranchs isdisclosed. An apparatus for repelling elasmobranchs is provided comprising an electropositivemetal, preferably lanthanide metal or mischmetal in the shape of a cylinder, cone, circle, cube, disk, bar, sphere, plate, rod, ring, tube, stick or block. An apparatus is disclosed comprising anelectropositive metal and a buoy, a barge, a net, fish hook, surfboard, fishing tackle or anycombination thereof.
