PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rare-earth-doped optical fiber which can suppress photo-darkening, can be inexpensively manufactured with good manufacturing performance and has a low increase in base loss. SOLUTION : The rare-earth-doped optical fiber is composed of a core doped with a rare earth element and at least a layer of clad surrounding the core, wherein the difference between a loss of a wavelength of 1, 240 nm and a loss of a wavelength of 1, 200 nm is within a range between 20 dB/km-300 dB/km.
