PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a magnetic material having satisfactory magnetic characteristics with a small content of rare earth elements, capable of easily forming a magnet having a bulk shape, and to provide a magnet that uses the material. SOLUTION : This magnet contains a magnetic material constituted of a plurality of particles 2, and a binder 4 for binding the particles 2. The particles 2 are constituted of main phase particles 6 which are constituted mainly of Fe, and a coating layer 8 that covers these main phase particles 6 and is constituted of an intermetallic compound, having a CaCu5-type crystal structure that is made of at least rare-earth elements.
