PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a high performance nickel-hydrogen secondary battery preventing oxidation of a hydrogen storage alloy, while combining a positive electrode including high-order nickel hydroxide with a negative electrode including a rare earth-Mg-Ni-based hydrogen storage alloy having high alkali resistance. SOLUTION : The positive electrode 24 of the nickel-hydrogen secondary battery includes a positive electrode active material particle 36 including the high-order nickel hydroxide having a valence number of nickel exceeding bivalent. The negative electrode 26 includes a hydrogen storage alloy particle 40 including the hydrogen storage alloy having a composition expressed by a general formula : R1-wMgwNixAlyTz, and a hydrogen generating metallic particle 42 including hydrogen generating metal for generating hydrogen by reacting with an alkaline electrolyte. In the formula, R and T respectively represent an element selected from a group composed of La and Ce and a group composed of V and Nb. Accompanying letters w, x, y and z fall within ranges indicated by 0< w ≤0.15, 3.2≤ x + y + z ≤4.2, 0≤ y ≤0.30 and 0≤ z ≤0.1. COPYRIGHT : (C)2009, JPO&INPIT
