A rare-earth complex which has circularly light-polarizing properties and high luminescent properties. The rare-earth complex comprises : a central ion which is a rare-earth ion; and ligands coordinated to the rare-earth ion which are a binaphthyl-structure ligand as an optically active ligand and another optically active ligand which is not a binaphthyl-structure ligand.
