PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To suppress the performance of a cell from worsening owing to the difference in quantity of expansion between a solid electrolyte layer and a fuel electrode in a reducing atmosphere and the mutual diffusion of an element.
SOLUTION : An electrochemical cell comprises : a solid electrolyte layer including ZrO2 containing a first rare earth element; an air electrode disposed on one side of the solid electrolyte layer; and a fuel electrode disposed on the other side of the solid electrolyte layer. The fuel electrode includes CeO2 including a second rare earth element and Ni or a Ni-containing alloy. The electrochemical cell further comprises an intermediate layer disposed between the solid electrolyte layer and the fuel electrode. The intermediate layer includes a solid solution containing Zr, Ce, the first rare earth element and the second rare earth element.
