PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To improve oxidation resistance of a Ni or Co-based superalloy turbine component. SOLUTION : A bilayer protective coating 12 is formed on the surface of turbine components by depositing a first inner platinum aluminide layer 14 on the surface of the turbine components, and a second outer oxidation resistant layer 16 comprising an MCrAlX alloy over the first inner layer, wherein M is a metal selected from Fe, Ni and Co, and X is yttrium or another rare earth element.
