PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a manufacturing method of rare earth element oxide nanoparticles free from fusion of particles with each other and having an excellent dispersibility. SOLUTION : The manufacturing method of the rare earth element oxide nanoparticles has a step of precipitating a carbonate containing a rare earth element and an alkaline earth metal element by adding an aqueous solution containing an alkali carbonate not less than an amount of 1 time to sum total molar quantity of the rare earth element ion and the alkaline earth metal element ion to an aqueous solution containing the rare earth element ion and the alkaline earth metal element ion, a step of forming a rare earth element oxide and an alkaline earth metal element oxide by subjecting the precipitated matter of the carbonate to heat treatment and oxidizing the carbonate and a step of dissolving the alkaline earth metal element oxide by adding these oxides to an aqueous solution containing an ammonium ion.
