PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rare earth magnet provided with a protecting layer that can be formed with a simplified method and has excellent electric insulation property. SOLUTION : The rare earth magnet 1 is provided with a magnet element material 2 including a rare earth element and a metal element other than the rare earth element, and a protecting layer 4 formed on the front surface of this magnet element material 2. This protecting layer 4 includes inorganic particles, and a compound of a metal element same as at least a kind of the metal elements included in the magnet element material 2, or includes silicon, oxygen, and a metal element same as at least a kind of the metal element included in the magnet element material. In the former protecting layer 4, inorganic particles are included therein in the amount of 90 to 10, 000 μg/cm2. Moreover, in the latter protecting layer 4, silicon is included in the amount of 90 to 10, 000 μg/cm2in terms of SiO2. COPYRIGHT : (C)2008, JPO&INPIT
