PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a magnetic recording medium which can avoid the crystal orientation degradation of the intermediate and recording layers caused by oxidation in the upper part of a backing layer and can achieve higher density recording than before, and also provide its manufacturing method and a magnetic recording device using this magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION : After forming a backing layer 22 of a soft magnetic material on a substrate 21, an oxidation preventive layer 23 is formed in 0.1-1.0 nm thick by using rare earth metals, such as Tb, Gd, Sm, and Y on the backing layer 22. Since the rare earth metal is oxidized in this oxidation preventive layer 23, the oxidation is prevented in the backing layer 22. Then, an intermediate layer 24 is formed on the oxidation preventive layer 23, and a recording layer 25 is formed thereon. The magnetic recording medium 20 thus can prevent crystal misorientation on the intermediate layer 24 and the recording layer 25, thereby achieving high density recording.
