[PROBLEMS] To provide a scintillator that while retaining the high detection efficiency and high speed performance of BaF2, can cope with high counting rate, and provide a radiation detector assembly with high time resolving power making use of the same. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] BaF2is doped with a given amount of rare earth element (Eu) to thereby reduce long-life component (600 to 620 ns) while leaving high-speed component (0.6 to 0.8 nanosecond) of BaF2 luminescence intact. There is provided a high counting rate scintillator for radiation detection comprising BaF2 doped with a rare earth element (Eu) wherein the doping amount is in the range of 0.02 to 1.0 mol%%.
