PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a laser diode pumped solid-state laser which can make ultraviolet rays oscillate continuously, is high in efficiency, outputs high power, and is inexpensive.
SOLUTION : A solid-state laser crystal 14, such as YLF, loaded with at least Pr3+ among rare earth element ions, is excited by a laser beam 10 emitted from a GaN based laser diode 11, then the solid-state beam 20 thus obtained is passed through a light wavelength conversion device 16 having a periodic domain reversing structure, so that the solid-state beam 20 is converted in wavelength into a second harmonic 21 of ultraviolet range or the like.
