PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method of manufacturing an aluminum nitride sintered compact having ≥400 MPa bending strength and ≥150 W/m-k heat conductivity with excellent productivity without applying thermal shock or carrying out a specific treatment such as a control of the size and the particle size distribution of the crystal grain. SOLUTION : The aluminum nitride sintered compact having ≥400 MPa bending strength and ≥150 W/m-k heat conductivity is obtained by successively applying hot degreasing treatment and sintering treatment to a molding comprising an organic binder containing a polymer produced by polymerizing one or more kinds selected from a group comprising acrylic ester, methacrylic ester, acrylic acid and methacrylic acid, aluminum nitride powder, a sintering aid comprising a rare earth compound and alumina.
