Disclosed is an optical recording layer for an optical information recording medium, wherein recording layer is intended to have a recording mark formed thereon by irradiation with a laser beam. The recording layer comprises an In-based alloy containing at least one rare earth element in an amount of 0.1 to 15 at.%, one element selected from Pd, Co, Pt and V in an amount of 0.1 to 50 at.%, Ni in an amount of 6 to 50 at.%, or Au in an amount not less than 0.1 at.% and less than 50 at.%. Also disclosed is a recording medium having the recording layer. Further disclosed is a spattering target for use in the formation of the recording layer, wherein the spattering target has the same alloy composition.
