PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a solid catalyst giving an alkylene carbonate at high yield and selectivity, excellent in thermal stability, and easy in catalyst separation during catalyst preparation and after reaction, and an industrially advantageous process for manufacturing an alkylene carbonate using the catalyst. SOLUTION : In the process for producing an alkylene carbonate by reacting an alkylene oxide with carbon dioxide, a rare earth compound, preferably, a rare earth oxide, a rare earth halide, a rare earth oxyhalide or the like is used as a catalyst.
