PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a novel material which can switch the state to transmit electromagnetic wave and the state to shield it, to provide a switching member using the material, and to provide a switchable electromagnetic shielding material.SOLUTION : A multilayer thin film material can switch the shielding state of electromagnetic wave, by exposing it to atmosphere including hydrogen and atmosphere including oxygen. (1) The thin film has a switching layer formed of any metallic thin film selected from a rare earth metal, an alloy of a rare earth metal and magnesium, an alloy of magnesium and transition metal, and magnesium. (2) A catalyst layer is formed in the surface of the thin film. (3) A protection layer is formed on the catalyst layer.
