PURPOSE : A varistor and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to improve a bonding strength of an external electrode and a varistor body having a zinc oxide as a main element. CONSTITUTION : A varistor includes a varistor body(3), and an external electrode(5). The external electrode(5) is installed on the varistor body(3). The varistor body(3) includes an oxide zinc as a main element, a rare-earth element, and calcium. The external electrode(5) is formed on an outer surface plane of the varistor body(3) by baking. The external electrode(5) has platinum. The rare-earth element which is included in the varistor body(3) is praseodymium. The varistor body(3) has a varistor unit(7) and a couple of outer layer units(9). The varistor unit(7) has a varistor layer(11) to implement a varistor characteristic and a couple of internal electrodes(13) which are arranged to interpose the varistor layer(11). © KIPO 2007
