PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for enhancing the octane value of a FCC gasoline obtained by the catalytic cracking of a heavy hydrocarbon oil, whereby the high-octane value gasoline base material can economically be produced. SOLUTION : This method for producing a high octane value gasoline base material is characterized by catalytically cracking a heavy hydrocarbon oil in the presence of a catalytically cracking catalyst having a rare earth metal/a crystalline aluminosilicate mass ratio of ≤0.03 and then distilling the obtained production oil to obtain a fraction having a 95% distillation temperature of 90 to 150°C.
