PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for production of inorganic phosphor that has fluorescence property that emitting orange to red light of longer wave length than that of conventional rare earth-activated sialon phosphor.
SOLUTION : The raw material mixture is calcined at 1, 200 to 2, 200°C in a nitrogen-including inactive atmosphere to obtain inorganic compound having the same crystalline structure as CaSiAlN3. Then, the resultant compound is used as a host crystal and one or two elements selected from M (where M is Mn, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Ge, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb and Lu) is added as an emission center to form a solid solution crystalline phosphor. This invention can produce a phosphor that is rich in red component and can be used for designing white color-emitting diode rich in red component and good color-rendering property.
