Synthesis gas production involves performing yjr electrolysis of water for producing oxygen and hydrogen, under a pressure of 0.5-3.5 Mpa. A stream comprising a large part of carbon contained in a carbonaceous material is subjected to partial oxidation with pure oxygen produced by the electrolysis. Part of the hydrogen produced by electrolysis is added to the stream upstream and/or downstream the partial oxidation, in a quantity such that a hydrogen and carbon monoxide ratio of final synthesis gas is 1.9-2.3.
