PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a new optical reflector which has heat resistance sufficient for practical use even when exposed to heat from a lamp, which promotes reduction of its size and its weight, and which is also economically practicable to a high degree, in taking measures against heat with respect to the optical reflector constituting a light source of an optical device. SOLUTION : A substrate of the optical reflector has a structure comprising a ceramic raw material of which the section to constitute a reflection face is coated with a glassy film. Baking of the raw material is controlled in such a way that deformation after the baking is ≥500 μm, a coefficient of linear thermal expansion from room temperature to 800°C is ≤7.0×10-6/K, and surface roughness Ra of the glassy film is ≤0.05 μm. The optical reflector is fabricated by coating the substrate with a reflection film composed of an alternately laminated dielectric film. Also the composition of components of the ceramic raw material includes ≥10 mass% mullite and the remainder is at least one kind or more selected from quartz, cristobalite, corundum, zircon, cordierite, amorphous oxide, transition metal oxide, and rare-earth metal oxide.
