PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a catalyst for cleaning an exhaust gas capable of accomplishing enhancement of an exhaust gas cleaning performance and a DPF with a catalyst capable of accomplishing enhancement of a combustion speed of captured PM. SOLUTION : The catalyst for cleaning the exhaust gas for cleaning the exhaust gas and the catalyst provided on the DPF for burning a particulate substance in the exhaust gas contain a composite oxide of Ce; at least one kind of rare earth metal except for Ce or at least one kind of alkaline earth metal; and a noble metal. The rare earth metal is selected from Sm and Gd and the alkaline earth metal is selected from Mg, Ca, Sr and Ba. Further, the composite oxide is obtained by calcining a precursor of the composite oxide obtained by mixing an acidic solution containing a Ce ion, at least one kind of rare earth metal ion except for the Ce ion or at least one kind of alkaline earth metal ion and a noble metal ion with a basic solution.
