PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an optical amplifier, having a small number of components and a simple configuration to avoid instability in a control system due to inflexion point that appears in frequency response in the forward excitation light modulation and delay, when controlling the output of a rare earth doped fiber 20 to be constant. SOLUTION : Control controllers 201 and 200 that are independent of forward and backward excitation light are provided, the parameter of the control controller, especially proportional gain, integration time, and differential time are modified, according to the number of beams of signal light that are subjected to wavelength multiplexing, and constant output control is made.
