This invention provides a rare earth element-added optical fiber element with a function which can omit an optical isolator element, and a method for imparting the non-reciprocity of light using the same. In the optical fiber, the optical fiber matrix material is a ferroelectric solid material, and the ferroelectric solid material contains a rare earth element such as erbium (Er) or thulium (Tm). The optical fiber is characterized by having a light amplifying function and having a light non-reciprocity function.
