In a method and apparatus for adsorptive cleaning of vegetable and/or minera l oils and fats operating by a multi-stage countercurrent process, in which unclean ed oil is fed to a first stage, where it is put into contact and pre-cleaned with a n already used and partly loaded adsorptive agent, fed to a first separating stage, pu t into contact with fresh adsorptive agent at a second stage, and then fed to a second separating stage and in which the constituents removed from the oil at the second separating stage are re-utilised at the first step in the process, as an already used, partly loaded adsorptive agent, these constituents are obtained and/or prepared as a pumpable sludge and passed to the uncleaned oil in the first stage with air excluded.
