PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method of manufacturing a magneto-optic garnet thick film single crystal for revealing a relation with a surface state and stably obtaining an insertion loss near 0.01 dB. SOLUTION : This method comprises : a bismuth-substituted rare earth iron garnet includes a crystal growth step of growing a crystal on a single crystal substrate by a liquid phase epitaxial growth method in an oxygen concentration of 0 to 16% (excluding 0); and a heat treatment step of heat treating the grown magneto-optical garnet thick film single crystal in a N2 or Ar gas atmosphere containing H2.
