This invention provides a process for producing a precursor of a rare earth-activated alkaline earth metal fluoride halide photostimulable phosphor, which can be efficiently produced and has a high level of plate properties, a rare earth-activated alkaline earth metal fluoride halide photostimulable phosphor produced from said precursor, and a high-sensitivity and high-image quality radiation image conversion panel using said phosphor. In the process for producing a precursor of a rare earth-activated alkaline earth metal fluoride halide photostimulable phosphor, a precursor of a rare earth-activated alkaline earth metal fluoride halide photostimulable phosphor represented by general formula (1) is produced. The production process comprises the steps of (A) adding an aqueous inorganic fluoride solution to a reaction mother liquid containing a barium halide dissolved therein to give a precursor crystal precipitate of the phosphor (time a), (B) removing the reaction solvent from the reaction mother liquid (time b). In this case, step (A) and step (B)are carried out in parallel under conditions satisfying 0.25 < a/b < 0.95. General formula (1) Ba1-xM2xFBryI1-y : aM1, bLn, cO
