PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a ferritic stainless steel having increased room temperature strength by the dispersive precipitation of intermetallic compounds, and having excellent joining properties with a nonmetallic material and corrosion resistance.
SOLUTION : The ferritic stainless steel contains ≤0.08% C, ≤3.0% Si, ≤3.0% Mn, ≤0.10% P, ≤0.03% S, >0.6 to 5.0% Ni, 9 to 40% Cr, ≤0.03% N, 0.05 to 1.0% Nb, 0.5 to 3.0% Cu and 0.5 to 5.0% Al, wherein a strengthening index X defined by X=Ni+2.25Al+1.5Cu is controlled to the range of 5.0 to 9.0. If required, the stainless steel further contains one or more kinds of metals selected from 0.05 to 0.5% Ti, 0.2 to 4.0% Mo, ≤3.0% Co, ≤3.0% W, ≤0.5% Zr, ≤0.5% V, ≤1.0% Ta, ≤0.1% Y, ≤0.1% rare earth metals, ≤0.01% B, ≤0.01% Mg and ≤0.01% Ca.
