PURPOSE : To produce a magnetic material in which deterioration in magnetic properties, due to α-Fe phases, is prevented. CONSTITUTION : This magnetic material has a composition essentially represented by R x R y T100-x-y-z Mz (where R means at least one kind among rare earth elements including Y, R means at least one element among Zr, Hf, and Sc, T means Fe and/or Co, M means at least one element among Ti, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, W, Mn, Ni, Ru, Rh, Pd, Cu, Ag, Zn, Cd, Al, Ga, In, Si, Ge, Sn, and Sb, and 2 elements existing in the outer layer part between the powder surface and a position at a depth of =2 atomic %.
