PURPOSE : A rare gas fluorescent lamp lighting apparatus is provided to constantly maintain a voltage inputted to a primary side of a transformer regardless of a variation of an input voltage by having a drive circuit of a switching element connected to the primary side of the transformer with an oscillation circuit, thereby stabilizing intensity of illumination of the rare gas fluorescent lamp. CONSTITUTION : In a rare gas fluorescent lamp lighting apparatus(50), a transformer(TR) has a rare gas fluorescent lamp connected to a secondary side (TRs) of the transformer(TR). A switching element(Q1) is connected in series to a primary side(TRp) of the transformer(TR). A drive circuit drives the switching element(Q1). The drive circuit includes a triangular waveform oscillation circuit(3) to increase and decrease an oscillation frequency according to an increase and a decrease in an input voltage(Vin) and a comparison circuit(4) to transform a triangular waveform output from the triangular waveform oscillation circuit(3) into a rectangular waveform with a predetermined duty ratio. © KIPO 2006
