PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a nickel-hydrogen storage battery with excellent discharge characteristics and over-discharge characteristics and also capable of preventing degradation of charge/discharge cycle characteristics. SOLUTION : The nickel-hydrogen storage battery is provided with a cathode 28 and an anode 30, of which the cathode 28 contains particles 40 of nickel hydride powder coated by a coating layer 42 with at least a part of its surface made of a cobalt compound with an average valence number of cobalt of larger than 2. Further, the anode 30 contains mixture powder of particles 46 of AB5 type hydrogen storage alloy powder of a given composition containing Mn element and particles 48 of rare-earth metal-Mg-Ni based hydrogen storage alloy particles not containing Mn element.
