PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an alkaline storage battery suitable for enhancing capacity, having high discharge capacity recovery ratio even after long storage, and enhancing cycle life characteristics.
SOLUTION : In the alkaline storage battery, positive electrodes 3 and negative electrodes 4 are alternately piled up through a separator 5, housed in an outer can 1 together with an alkaline electrolyte, and the negative electrode 4 is formed by applying negative electrode slurry containing hydrogen storage alloy powder and a binder to a negative substrate. The hydrogen storage alloy powder comprises a rare earth-Mg-Ni system alloy having the prescribed composition. The negative electrode slurry moreover contains a first additive comprising at least one kind selected from the group comprising Co, a Co compound, Fe, and an Fe compound, and a second additive comprising a compound of rare earth elements.
