PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To further increase the luminescence intensity of a zinc oxide-based luminescent material emitting a light with a specific wavelength.SOLUTION : The luminescent material is a zinc oxide-based luminescent material in which one kind of rare earth element and one kind selected from the group consisting of group 5B elements consisting of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) is added to zinc oxide (ZnO). The concentration of the group 5B element added is 0.4-6.0 mole%. The zinc oxide-based luminescent material is then subjected to annealing in an oxygen-containing atmosphere to obtain the product.
