PURPOSE : To produce a high quality magnetic powder easily and stably by emplbying an alloy, having a solidification texture conditioned to a specific cooling rate, as a starting material and subjecting the starting material to hydrogen occlusion and dehydrogenation. CONSTITUTION : The method for producing an anisortropic magnetic powder produces a powder of microcrystalline particles principally comprising R2T14B (R : a rare earth element containing Y, T : a transition metal) having average particle size in the range of 0.02-5mum. The microcrystalline particle contains 25-35wt.% of R, 0.5-1.5wt.% of B, 3-20wt.% of Co, total 0.05-5wt.% of one or more than one kind of Ga, Zr, Nb, Hf, Ta, Al, Si, V, and the remainder of Fe and inevitable impurities. The production method comprises a dissolving/ casting step for solidifying the material at a cooling rate of 10-10 deg.C/sec to obtain a planar alloy of 50-5000mum thick, a step for conducting heat treatment in an inert atmosphere of 900 deg.C or above, and a step for conducting hydrogen occlusion and dehydrogenation to cause recrystallization.
