PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a catalyst for purification of exhaust gas controlling reduction of Pd contained in a support from the Pd2+ state after long-time exposure to a 980°C-or-higher high-temperature atmosphere to prevent deterioration of the purifying performance. SOLUTION : The catalyst carries a Pd type compound oxide containing at least one rare earth element and at least one element selected from the first transition elements of atomic numbers higher than that of Mn on a support prepared by baking a carboxylate complex polymer of a precursor salt.
