PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing an inorganic fluorophor having such fluorescent properties as to emit orange or red longer in wavelength than conventional rare earth-activated sialon fluorophors.
SOLUTION : The inorganic fluorophor is a solid solution crystal fluorophor where the matrix crystal consists of an inorganic compound having crystalline structure identical with CaSiAlN3 crystal and M(one or more elements selected from Mn, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb and Lu) is added as an emission center. This fluorophor is obtained by baking a raw material mixture at 1, 200-2, 200°C in a nitrogen-containing inert atmosphere. This fluorophor is usable for designing white light-emitting diodes rich in red component and good in color rendering tendency.
