[PROBLEMS] Disclosed is an oxide solid solution powder which is mainly composed of a cerium oxide and can be used as a polishing agent. When used as a polishing agent, this oxide solid solution powder enables to obtain a polished surface with high surface precision. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] When used for polishing a glass material such as a glass substrate, an oxide solid solution powder wherein a calcium oxide is dissolved in a rare earth oxide mainly composed of a cerium oxide enables to obtain a polished surface with high surface precision, and thus this oxide solid solution powder is suitable for a polishing agent. By dissolving calcium element in the rare earth oxide mainly composed of a cerium oxide, polishing capability of the polishing agent is enhanced and thus there is obtained a polished surface with higher surface precision. © KIPO & WIPO 2007
