An adaptive procedure of error recognition and the error correction, which it makes possible, is described partial defective memory elements (e.g. FLASH memory to be able to use magnetic disks and magnetic tapes) at least with reduced storage capacity again. DOLLAR A depending upon application error detection and error correction can be realized separately into Hardwareund software components. The microprocessor steered CONTROLLERs takes over thereby beside the general store management also rare necessary, but more complex algorithms of R-S error correction. Simpler one, often necessary routines of R-S algorithms for the coding and error recognition (syndrome formation) in a dedicated hardware are realized.
