PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an oxynitride phosphor that is excited by an excitation light source in a range from the ultraviolet to visible light, and has a luminescent color ranging from green to yellow that is converted in wavelength, and a light emitting device using the oxynitride phosphor.
SOLUTION : This oxynitride phosphor is crystalline, comprises one or more group II elements selected from the group consisting of Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba and Zn, one or more group IV elements selected from the group consisting of C, Si, Ge, Sn, Ti, Zr and Hf, and a rare earth element as an activating agent R, and has interplanar spacings d (Å) which are present in at least three ranges selected from the group of 6.213≤d≤8.005 Å, 3.112≤d≤3.996 Å, 3.034≤d≤3.863 Å, 2.429≤d≤3.186 Å, 2.304≤d≤2.964 Å, and 2.158≤d≤2.645 Å. The light emitting device uses the oxynitride phosphor as a phosphor for converting the wavelength of the light from the excitation light source.
